Case Study Degree Works Hacked Prototype
Project Summary
The project is to understand the problem that comes from Degree Works. The goal of the project is to solve the usability problem that students at St. Edwards experience. As a UX designer need to identify the problem through testing and interviews and propose a solution from analyzing the research result. From the result, the problem that students face is the website confusing well of adding major and minor.

User Testing
To test the efficiency of Degree Works, I had interviewed three different students at St. Edward's University and asked them to complete three tasks that relate to seeing the possible outcome when adding a minor or major. While I am testing the users by giving instructions I am also taking notes on the users' process.
Identify/Analysis
After reviewing the interview notes I map out a Mind map to look for common errors.
Problem Statement
Our students are having trouble and making mistakes when adding their minor because they are skipping the "pick a Program" drop-down menu and instead of clicking on the "pick a major" or "pick a Minor" drop-down menu. If we can solve this problem, it would impact students' experience positively because the students would not feel the need to struggle when using the website. It would also benefit our School because our website would become less confusing to use for users/students.
Solution
After finding the problem I think of ways to fix the issue by sketching some ideas. First, I would write down multiple ideas to solve the problems on paper. Second, I would pick my best ideas and sketch them at eight different times, one minute each. Third, I take the best sketch and refined it into a 3-panel sequence on flashcards. Once I finish working by hand I produce the Hacked Prototype as the proposed solution. The problem was that users ignore the "pick a program" and head straight to major or minor selection so the solution I have decided on was to remove the "pick a program" option and just keep the major and minor selection so that users would not be confused when using Degree Works.
